The Budapest Wine Festival is celebrating a special milestone in 2026. For 35 years, it has been one of the most important meeting places for Hungary’s wine community, bringing together winemakers, wine regions, professionals and wine enthusiasts from Hungary and beyond. This year’s festival offers the chance to choose from more than a thousand wines and sparkling wines while meeting the people behind them. Winemakers, industry experts and some of the best-known figures in Hungary’s wine scene will be on hand to share their knowledge, stories and passion.
To mark the anniversary, the 2026 programme puts a special spotlight on the wine culture of the Americas, with wines from California, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Brazil taking centre stage. In just one afternoon, visitors can embark on an imaginary wine journey from California, across the Andes and all the way to Brazil. Along the way, you can discover some of the New World’s best-known grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc and Carmenère.
California: Rich, Ripe and Full of Character
California is one of the world’s most famous New World wine regions, known for its rich, fruit-forward wines and distinctive use of oak. The “Flavours of California - Characters Born in Oak” tasting focuses primarily on Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, offering an opportunity to explore the depth and complexity of Californian wines.
Argentina: Discover the World of Malbec
If there is one grape variety that is inseparably linked with Argentina, it has to be Malbec. The “Treasures of the Andes - Malbec Selection” tasting presents four distinctive wines showcasing Argentina’s signature grape. Known for its intense fruit flavours, velvety tannins and rich aromas, Malbec has become one of the most popular South American wine varieties around the world.
Chile: A Fresh Take on Sauvignon Blanc
Chile’s diverse geography and range of climates create exceptional conditions for growing grapes. At the “Chile’s Fresh Face - A Sauvignon Blanc Journey” tasting, four different wines demonstrate just how varied and expressive this popular grape variety can be.
American Sparkling Wine
The Americas-focused programme also features something particularly special: traditional-method sparkling wines. The “Bubbles from Across the Ocean” tasting includes iconic wines from Schramsberg, showcasing the quality and sophistication of traditional sparkling wine production outside Europe.
More Than Just a Wine Festival
Although wine is undoubtedly the star of the show, the Budapest Wine Festival is much more than a traditional wine tasting. The terraces of Buda Castle are filled with restaurants and food vendors offering a wide variety of dishes designed to complement the wines. The culinary selection takes visitors on a journey around the world, with Italian, Lebanese, Mexican, Balkan and Hungarian flavours all represented.
Spans a wide range of styles, including jazz, blues, folk, pop, rockabilly and rock and roll. The 2026 line-up includes ManGoRise, The Bits, Messessippi and Dynamite Dudes, among others. For a more relaxed atmosphere, head to the Jazzy Stage in Csikós Courtyard, where DJs provide the evening soundtrack.
